it's fall...

Here at Sauvie Island Farms, we still have Chester Blackberries to pick. This is our first year to have this crop and we are happy to say that these fall bearing thornless blackberries, really do keep riping even with the cool nights. There are berries ready to pick this week as well as more red ones that should ripen in the next week or so. We also have a small field of green beans, some green peppers, zucchini and a few ripe tomatoes this week. There are beautiful dahlias blooming...waiting to be cut!! Our bodacious sweet corn field is coming to an end, but we do have a couple more plantings of corn, so we will have fresh sweet corn for you to purchase already picked at our October location..just 1/4 mile from the Sauvie Island bridge.. We will also have fresh cooked corn on the cob each day!! We open with our pumpkin harvest, corn maze, hayrides, animal barn...etc. on October 1st!!

Sauvie Island Farms Pick Your Own crops are coming to an end. We will pick the last of our peach harvest on Tuesday, Sept. 9th. We have a few Veteran and Elberta peaches which have finally ripened on the trees. After these are picked on Tuesday, we will be finished with our peaches for this season. We still have Chester Blackberries, Sweet Corn, Cabbage, Zucchini, Green Peppers, Dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, and many more flowers for you to pick this week. We will continue to be open this week 9am-6pm (we have adjusted our hours a little since Labor Day). If you are looking for tomatoes, ours are just not ripe yet. As we finish up with the 'pick your own' harvest, we are also getting ready for our October corn maze and pumpkin harvest! We have some great things planned for this october.....more on that later!!

Hello Fall!!

This is picture of the cold morning we had today. Fall is here. As we expected ALL of the ripe peaches in our orchard were picked today. We do have a small amount of green peaches left, but will they ever ripen with the cold nights we are experiencing ??? Our farm is still open this week, we are going to give our faithful employees a break and not open until 9am for the rest of the season!! This week we still have Honey Select Sweet Corn, 5/$1. Bartlett Pears for $1.00 per lb. Chester Blackberries...these berries just keep ripening...and there are plenty of red ones also!! They are $1.50/lb. Cabbage, zucchini, green peppers, a few green beans and cucumbers are also available. Our tomatoes are still green...hoping they will turn red soon. AND the flowers are blooming and beautiful!! We had a great, warm afternoon on the farm today!!
