RED HAVEN PEACHES

We will begin picking the Red Haven Peaches on Thursday, July 29th. The peaches are just $1.50/lb. with a discount for quantities over 15 lbs.

The trees are loaded with beautiful peaches, however, not all are ripe, so you need to be selective in the ones you pick. Lightly touch the peach in the palm of your hand then lift, if it falls off the tree, it is ripe. You don't want to tug and pull at the peach to get it to come off, this will result in bruising and the peach is probably not going to be as sweet as a 'tree ripened' peach.

The SUNFLOWERS are blooming.
Nothing says summer like a tree ripened sweet peach and beautiful sunflowers at Sauvie Island Farms!!

Peaches...the Early Reds are gone.....

Wow. Those went fast! We are picked out of the Early Red Haven peaches.
The RED HAVENS should be ripe enough to pick hopefully by Thursday of this week.We will send out an update to let you know our opening day for the Red Haven Peaches. When you come out to the farm, you will notice in the orchard that there are small young trees planted between the larger peach trees. We have 'replanted' our peach orchard after 30+ years. It does take a few years for the trees to grow and mature before they produce any fruit, so we will keep the older trees for the next couple of years for u pick. We have added a couple of new varieties and replanted a couple of the favorites! We are planning to continue the tradition started by the farmer's dad of u pick peaches at Sauvie Island Farms for many years to come!
This week on the farm, we are still picking Raspberries, Blueberries and small quanitities of Marionberries. We have beautiful pickling size cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, yellow summer squash, lettuce, and cabbage. There are some beautiful flowers blooming this week also!

Peaches, flowers and veggies.

This week at Sauvie Island Farms, we are starting to see more flowers open up and bloom. We had a challenge with our dahlias this past winter. Many of the tubers that we left in the ground did not make it thru the winter, so we replanted over 2/3 of our u-cut dahlia garden. The dahlias that are blooming now are on the plants that did survive!

The EARLY RED HAVEN PEACHES are ready for you to pick!!
Pick your own price is $1.50 per lb.
How do we know when the peaches are ripe? As you can see from the picture, the deer have started to come into the orchard and take their 'one bite' per peach.
There are plenty of peaches to go around, so just be careful when you are picking. If you pick one that has a bite in it, just set it on the ground.
We will pick the Early Reds this week, usually once they are picked out the Red Havens are ready to pick. We should have a good peach season this year. Come out for your first taste of a tree ripened peach this season!
We also have pickling cucumbers ready for you to pick. They are PERFECT right now for small sized sweet and dill pickles. We also have some young, tender green beans, small zucchini & yellow squash, lettuce and sugar peas.
OH...and the berries are still great! Tulameen Raspberries, Blue Crop Blueberries and Marionberries are still easy to pick this week!
Hope to see you soon on the farm.
